Hello Tigers,
Hope everyone is having a great and safe Holiday. This Monday, 1/05/2009 we will be meeting at my house, 2504 Chateau Drive, Lutz (it is right off Livingston Ave about 1 mile north of Sunset and about 1 mile south of County Line Road/Collier Pkwy, 6:00 - 6:15. We will be watching a movie about the Derby (popcorn and juice will be provided). Also Mr. Dennis is suppose to bring his scales so we can check the Derby cars. We will have one more Den meeting to finalize the Derby Cars before the big race.
Please check the photo page for pictures from the Boat Regatta. I think everyone had a GREAT time!! Congratulations to all the Tigers for receiving their Bobcat Badge. Way to go!! Hopefully everyone did their Good Deed to be able to place their badge right-side-up. Congrats also to AJ and Jacob N who sold the most popcorn in the Tiger Den and will be receiving a free trip to the Aquarium. Thanks to all the Tigers who sold popcorn to help out the Pack. We should be receiving our Popcorn Patches shortly.
Upcoming Events:
- Monday, 1/5 - Movie Night at the Northrop's 6 pm - Please bring your Derby car kit if you didn't make it to the Race Car Shop last month so that you can get with Dennis about cutting down the wood. The scale will also be there to weigh your car if you are ready.
- Wednesday, 1/7 - Parent/Committee/Leader Meeting at the Lodge 6:30 pm - Please come (without kids) to show support.
- Monday, 1/12 - Den Meeting Lutz Cafeteria - final meeting before big race - finish Derby Cars - also Ms. Sarah (Jack's mom) is going to be doing the Food Pyramid for Tigers to earn another bead. She will be providing snacks/drinks for this meeting.
- Friday, 1/16 - Pinewood Derby Race at the Lodge 6:00 pm (??) - more details to follow - Race will probably start at 7 PM. If you can't make this Pack Meeting and would like to run your car, please make sure it is ready and give it to either Ms. Andrea or Mr. Jim to enter into the race.
- Monday, 1/26 - Den Meeting at Lutz Cafeteria - Mr. Allen (Parke's dad) is going to be doing a Nature Craft for Tigers to earn another bead. He will be providing the snacks/drinks for this meeting.
- Saturday, 1/31 - Tampa International Airport Fire Station and Scavenger Hunt 10 AM. We have tentatively booked for 26 people. No one under 5 years old is permitted on the tour.
We are getting close to completing all beads for the Tiger Badge. We are hoping that the Tigers will receive the Badge at the February 13 Pack Meeting. Please get with Ms. Andrea if you are missing any beads. We will also be practicing Flag Ceremonies for the next month. Mr. Eric has asked that the Tigers lead the Flag Ceremony at the February Pack Meeting.
Well, Happy New Years,
Jim

Great Den meeting we had, I realized we didn't pass out the bead for the 4D activity. We should have those for the Scouts next meeting, Monday the 27th. Also, I would like to bring current the Scouts Handbooks, sign off on the activities they have achieved and would like to start with our dues, $3.00 per Scout (remember the goal is to have them earn the dues over the period of a month, save and then contribute). If anyone wants to contribute more it will be welcome. The Pop Corn fundraiser will be due at the next Den meeting, minimally we would like to see each Scout with one sale. That way they will get the badge associated with the fundraiser. Obviously, we would like to have more sales, as this is a major contribution to the Pack 12 budget. Mark your calenders for November 8th, this will be the Pack 12 meeting at Ft.Desoto, I understand it is a great time. They fry Turkey's have lots of activities and our Scouts will be presented with the Outdoor Activity Badge they can achieve on the camp out. More detail at the next meeting. Now to the camping trip. I would like to get a head count of those who will be joining us. Remember this is a Family outing, all family members are welcome. Also, I would like to know if there will be any motor homes, trailers or campers that will need a space with electric and water, this will be an additional charge of $15.00 each. I don't believe we will be charge for the space if you do not hook up. Depending on how many come will determine the cost of the site. Up to 16 will be a total of $20.00 divided by the number who will be camping. Up to 24 it will be $25.00. I told the Ranger I would confirm with him by next Wednesday. So by the latest I will need the count by the next Den Meeting. We have set the schedule for Saturday overnight, if anyone is interested in going up Friday let me know as I will need to get the gate closing time which I believe will be 5:30 - 6:30? You will need to make prior to then as they lock down the park at that time. On to the food. It has been suggested and I think a good idea that we provide a suggested menu and everyone bring their own food, snacks and drinks (except water). That way those who only like ham versus peanut butter and jelly will have want they want while everyone will be having sandwich's. The only group food would be Saturday dinner, all would pitch in for hot dogs and hamburgers condiments & buns and water bottles (we will be able to get bulk rate at Sam's). The sides, vegs or what ever would be on an individual basis. I am sure we will need to get items for Sam-ore's. Camp stove and grill will be available and/or open fire cooking. The Suggested Menu: Saturday Lunch - Sandwiches Saturday Snack - Individual Choice Saturday Dinner - Hot Dog/Hamburgers and Individual Sides Sunday Breakfast - Individual Choice Sunday Mid Morning Snack - Individual Choice Sunday Lunch - Sandwiches Camping gear. I have been told there are a few tents that will be available if anyone needs one. The Scouts and Akela's should consider tent camping in the Scout camp site. I will have a list of items that should be included in your camping gear at the next Den meeting. Anyone who may provide items, such as canopies, folding tables, etc. that could be used for general purpose, please let me know so I can make sure we sufficient items. There are pick nick table at the site we can use. Tentative Itinerary: Saturday Morning 11/1 - Start Time Change - Fall Back 8:00 - 10:00 Arrive and Set Up (I will have a map and we can meet to follow) 10:00 - 10:45 Fire Ring - Welcome, Rule, Regs, Leave No Trace, Buddy System, Facilities Locations, Itinerary Review 10:45 - 11:45 Park - Free Time Explore Indian Village, Locate Facilities, Playground 11:45 - 12:30 Camp Site Lunch 12:30 - 1:00 Camp Site Prepare for Hike 1:00 - 2:00'sh Park Trails Hike to Tower - If you have binoculars this is a 40' tower 2:00'sh - 3:30 Camp Site - Park Unwind from hike - Afternoon Snack - Prepare for Kick Ball Game 3:30 - 5:00 Play Field Kickball Game 5:00 - 5:30 Camp Site Free Time 5:30 - 6:30 Camp Site Dinner 6:30 - 7:00 Camp Site Clean Up 7:00 - Till (8:00 - 9:00'sh) Camp Site Campfire Sunday Morning 11/02 From - 9:00 Camp Site Breakfast 9:00 - 9:30 Camp Site Prepare for Hike 9:30 - 10:30'sh Park Hike to Boardwalk 10:30'sh - 11:15 Camp Site/Park Free Time 11:15 - 12:30 Camp Site Lunch 12:30 - 1:15 Camp Site Craft 1:15 - 2:00 Camp Site Break Camp - Police Area (Leave No Trace Behind) - Depart I will have this printed out for review at the next Den Meeting. We will also be looking for some leadership from the Akela's, Cooking, Campfire program, Kick Ball, Craft leader, First Aid Go To, etc and let me know where you fit in. Well, by the indication of our last Den meeting it appears we will have a good turn out and everyone is looking forward to it. Let me have your suggestions and comments as we want to have everything confirmed at our next Den Meeting. Until then Go Tiger Cubs!!!! Jim |

Hi Tiger Scouts and Akelas – We just wanted to remind you that Pack Meeting is tomorrow (Friday 10/10) at the Lodge at 6:30 pm. If you need directions, please see the Pack website ( www.pack12.net). The theme of this month’s Pack Meeting is Halloween. We invite all Scouts and their family to this Party for some fun and games. You are encouraged to come in costume but it’s not required. There will be some games set up for everyone to play and win candy and prizes. Our Cubmaster Eric Downey will bring Pizza and drinks – so please (if you can) donate a few dollars to him to help cover the cost of the Pack Meeting. Just a Reminder – We will not have a Den Meeting on the 13th. This has been rescheduled to Monday, October 20, at the Lutz Cafeteria. We have decided that since the Pack Meeting is on Friday that having a Den Meeting the following Monday is just too close in time. A few dates to keep in mind (and to add to your calendars at home): 10/10/08 Pack Halloween Meeting – Lodge 10/20/08 Den Meeting – Lutz Cafeteria 10/27/08 Den Meeting – Preparing for our First Campout 11/1/08 Tiger Cub Family Campout (TBA) 11/3/08 ?? Den Meeting 11/5/08 Parents Planning Meeting – Lodge 6:30 pm 11/8/08 Pack Turkey Fry at Fort DeSoto A few of you received the Parent Talent Survey at our last Den Meeting. We have also attached a copy of this form. Please fill this out as best you can to help us be able to plan activities for the boys. Your help is greatly appreciated!! Just a Reminder – If every Scout will just sell one (1) popcorn item, he will receive a Popcorn Badge/Patch. Also, if you want to let family and friends know (and even employers/businesses), they can now donate to our Pack on the Pack Website and the donations will go towards helping fund our Pack Activities. Please RECYCLE those aluminum cans – Bring them either to the Pack Meeting or our Den Meeting (as we have the Can Man – Dennis). This also helps in funding our Pack Activities. As always, if you have any questions, concerns, comments, etc., please let Mr. Jim or Ms. Andrea know. Tiger Den Co-Leaders: Ms. Andrea ( adhopkins@juno.com) Mr. Jim ( jmn2504@verizon.net) |
