The parade is scheduled on the Saturday 3rd.  The parade starts promptly at 10am.  Line up starts about 9.  Lutz Lake Road will be closed prior to and during the parade.  Last year there was parking at the county park, but there has since been an expansion so I do not know how that parking will be effected.  From what I remember it does get busy, so keep that in mind.  The parade will end down by the fire station and if like last year we will be down one of the adjacent streets.  The floats have to stay parked until the event is over, so your child can be picked up at the float after we cross the judges area.  
 
We will have coolers of water and will encourage all to drink as it gets really hot out there.  We ask everyone bring a bag or 2 of candy or something to be tossed (ie beads).  Last year we had problems with the excited children pelting the watchers so we will have to go over the soft underhand toss with all of them!!  Please try to select items that don’t have sticks ie dum dum pops.  Give the large group size, the Webelos will be walking, Bears will be riding in the truck bed, and the smaller wolves and Tigers will be riding in the trailer.  Parents are welcome to walk along with us, however we will need leaders at a minimum and probably a few other parents to walk along the float as safety watchers/helpers.  Last year siblings rode along with the scouts, yes girls too, and would like to invite them along again should they wish to participate.
 
It was a great event last year and expect this year to be even better.

If you know of a kindergartner that is interested in joining our great Pack, please let them know we are having our first Tiger roundup on April 21st, 2010.  So tell them to come see us that Wednesday night at the Lutz School cafeteria at 6:30 pm to ask questions, learn about the free programs being offered during the summer, participate in the Lutz 4th of July parade, and most importantly just be cool with the other scouts.  Our current Tiger leader along with the Cub Master will be there with the gulf Ridge Council to answer any questions and welcome them to our group.

Leaders and Scouts: It is just about time for our largest pack event of the year.  Given the expected number of people, we have made arrangements to have the event in the Pasco recreation center up on US41 on the left hand side (heading North).  About 10 minutes north of SR 54.  The facility is a little larger so all the parents to spread out a little to cheer their scouts onto victory.  The defending champs this year are held by two bears and a wolf so let’s see what this year brings.

Given the number of children, and yes a few adults, we have racing cars, Check-in will be between 6:30-7:00.  The scouts are on the registration  list so they will just need to have their car weighed in.  We are asking if you have other children that are racing, please let your den leader know in advance so they can add the name to the registration list in advance to get the racing started as quickly as possible.
 
For those new to the event, the biggest rule you need to be aware of is make sure no liquid lubricant on the axles.  This leaves a residue on the track and just makes a mess.  However don’t fear there will be a table set up with extra parts if this or anything else should happen.  If there is a problem of any sort, please see a leader.  There hasn’t been a problem yet that I haven’t seen fixable, let’s make sure everyone races that wants too.

Nearly 40 Scouts, Siblings and Parents made it out to Wings and Things this year for a fantastic time.  We saw airplanes...we made airplanes...and we even rode in airplanes.  From campfire songs to crafts, movies, kickball and a pancake breakfast the trip was unbelievable.  Looking forward to going again next year!  Click here to check out some pictures from the campout.  As always, if you have additional pictures we could post, please send them along to billanderson.us@gmail.com.

Attached is the Individual registration and waiver release for EACH scout attending.  If you are planning to participate in the Wings & Things Campout, please return these forms to your den leader along with payment.  Costs are below, but don't include the $15 for your scout. The Pack will cover the $15 day fee for each registered scout out of pack funds.

Day visitors will check their name off a master list for admission into the event at the front gate.
  
Campers may have to meet prior to entrance on Friday.  This will be verified as the date gets closer.  Campers may also take advantage of Pizza, chips, & drink for $3.  Must have order in 1 week prior for ordering purposes.

FAQ:  
What are the dates for the Wings-n-Things event?
It begins Friday, November 6th and continues through to Sunday, November 8th.
Do I have to attend all three days?
No.   You can attend one day or the whole weekend.
Is it too late to register for the event?
No.  Fill out your registration form (Adult and child) and waiver for the participating child and give it either to the den leader or fax to the number above by October 26th and you will be added to the list.
 Can adults participate in the First Flight?
Sorry, no adults.  The program is only available for children beteen the ages of 8 to 18.
 Do we have to camp both nights?
No.  You can camp: none, one, or both nights.  For those that arrive on Saturday to camp, just bring your camping gear and pitch a tent when its best for you.  The facility is 100 acres and has an area to camp on the water, under the trees, or out in the open.
 When is the money due?
Please have the mony to your den leader by October 26th.
 Will food be available?
Lunch is provided as part of the admission on Saturday (Breakfast for campers).  Breakfast or lunch ($3) may be purchased for children under 5 who do not need to register.  Breakfast is served Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. for all campers.  Lunch is served at noon with activities continuing from 1p.m. to 4p.m..  
 What is there to do at the event?
Friday night: speaker and astronomy night.
Saturday: In Buehler Skills Center: building rockets, gliders, propellers, and rib building; Hangar A: pilot interviews and exhibits; Hangar B: making windsocks, parachutes, kites, kaleidoscopes, cloud making, star finders, temperature inside/outside, FPG-9 glider, card making, frame making, anemometers, design space station, paper airplane guy, full motion simulators, First Aid class, and the Scamp (an aircraft to sit in); Museum: exhibits, women in aviation, space exploration class, aviation class, rocket exhibit and discussion with a real rocket scientist. Tom Davis Education Center: flight simulators, weather class, and astronomy class, and Cessna Center is the first flights (Please make sure it is your first flight with us.) Orienteering course will be set up between Hangar A and the Cessna Center.
Saturday night: movies and a bon fire.
Sunday: church service 9am (Building 9) followed by Map Quest (finding the hidden treasure using a map) at 10 am. in building 4 (the museum).
What time do I have to be there?
Programmed events begin at 8 p.m. Friday evening with a NASA speaker and an astronomy demonstration. Saturday's activities begin at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and continuing after lunch from 1p.m. to 4p.m..  Saturday evening, adults and youth enjoy movies in the pavilion or the huge campfire in the campground.  
Is my child too young?
Absolutely not!!  This event showcases the dynamic world of aviation especially for youth ages 5 to 18. Aviation enthusiasts gather to share their knowledge and interests with youth groups and families throughout Florida and the southeast.
What do I do whenI get there?
If I'm camping Friday: Find Todd at the RV camp site to obtain schedule and admission wrist band, pick a nice spot to setup camp.
If I'm attending on Saturday only: Check in at the entrace to obtain your admission wrist band.  Contact Todd to obtain First Flight time.  If your child is not participating in the first flight, go straight to the activity area.
If I'm camping Saturday night: Call Todd to bring the admission wirst band to the front gate and get your First Flight time. If your child is not participating in the first flight, enjoy all the other acitvities.  Meet Todd at the RV camp site to set up camp.  Once all the campers are there, find a nice spot to camp.
Will we camp together or just find a spot when we arrive?
The camping is first come first serve.  It is notpossible to "save" a camping spot.  However there is ample room to set camp at various locations and should provide an opportunity to camp as a group.
Saturday activities start at 9:00am.  What if we can't come until later?
If you come later than the start of the activities, that's ok.  Activities run continious during the day (for Cub Scouts), except for the scheduled first flight program.  So if your're arriving later, just find your way to the Cub Scout activity area and enjoy.
If we come later, how do we find the group?
We will try to meet before lunch and after the activities.  However, since the Cub Scouts will be in a general area, it shouldn't be too hard to find all your friends.
Will we gather for lunch?
We will meet at 11:45 for the 12:00 lunch at building 9.
What should we wear?
Wear the yellow Pack 12/Cub Scout shirt if you have one.  There is nothing wrong with wearing the scout uniform, however the scout will be wearing that for the activities, so be careful.
Should we bring our own food Saturday evening or Sunday morning or will the pack eat together?
You can either bring your own food for dinner and/or breakfast or stop by at Todd's camp for a little bite before you continue onward.  There are also nearby restaurants if you would rather as well.
 
I will have hamburgers and hotdogs for Saturday dinner and pancakes and cereal for Sunday breakfast.
Will scouts be able to earn badges?
The scouts may qualify for badges depending on what they participate in.  Please see the scouting handbook for more details for qualifications.

Calling all scouts! Thursday, September 8th is recruiting day at Lutz Elementary so don't forget to wear your full uniforms to school.  Scout leaders will be visiting your classroom so be on the lookout:)

Thanks to all the parents and boys that visited our table at the Lutz Elementary Open House this past Thursday.  We met more than a dozen boys interested in joining and hope to see all of them back for the Round-Up.  The Round-Up will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 on Thursday, September 10th in the Lutz Elementary cafeteria.

Thanks to all the parents and scouts that made our participation in the Lutz 2009 July 4th parade such a huge success.  We had 15+ kids turn out to ride in the float, throw candy, wave flags and wish everyone a happy 4th of July.  We even won 2 trophies for our campsite float!  The Gv'nor of Lutz chose the Pack 12 Float as BEST YOUTH ENTRY and we also received a GRAND MARSHAL TROPHY.  Jim Northrop, Wolves Co-Leader, received both awards on the pack's behalf and will see that they make the rounds to each den and then with the pack memorabilia.  This is a big start to another great year in Scouting!!
